Description:   The origins of American ideals and institutions are examined. A study of major events, issues, and personalities in the past provides a perspective for studying the impact of contemporary issues and problems. The role of Virginia in the development of the United States, yesterday and today, is included. The methodology of the social scientist is emphasized as a means of analyzing problems and issues in American history.
